Our History

1940s The first Yemeni settles in Eccles.
1950s Large numbers of Yemenis arrive in Eccles.
1958 The Yemeni League is established.
1963 Following the 1962 revolution in Yemen, The Arab Workers’ Union is established and run by Yemenis in Eccles. The union aims ‘to serve the needs of all Arabs in Greater Manchester’.
1971 The Yemeni Welfare Society is formed and becomes the main centre for all Yemeni communities across the UK.
1976 The General Federation of the Sons of Yemen is established.
1990 Following the reunification of North and South Yemen, The Yemeni Community Association (YCA) is established.
2005 The YCA is registered as an official charity.
