Mixed heritage

Gadri Audhali summarises his mixed heritage.

Bremeni! …We are 50/50 Yemeni, British. We love Yemen; we’re here in Britain as well. You know we were born here, it’s our country, it’s our community. We care. We’ve got families who are originally from Yemen and I’ve also got family who are originally white as well so, I am 50/50. I might be 100% Yemeni when you look at it from the ethnicity because my mum’s Yemeni and my dad’s Yemeni, but … in Yemen there’s a saying, it says “[home is] where your provision is, not where you’re born”…but for me it’s provision and birth. Provision – I’m living in this country, and birth – I was born in this country.
